Bottle
How long does Ocean Bottle stay hot & cold?
All bottle companies make quite large claims about their bottles. I believe that most of them test the temperature retention without opening the lid, which obviously will keep things locked in for longer. But the average person will be dipping in and out of the bottle all day.
So, I decided to put Ocean Bottle to the test. Here is how each of my Ocean Bottles fared:
- Claim: 18 hours cold & 6 hours hot
- Actual: 16 hours cold & 4 hours hot
I tested out the Ocean Bottle Original with a frozen margarita and the results were really impressive. It remained frozen for a fair few hours and stayed cold for the majority of the day. I also tested it out with cold water and it remained cold for at least 12 hours, with me opening it a few times throughout the day. For hot liquids, it stayed pretty hot for about an hour and remained at drinking temperature for quite a few hours after.
- Claim: 0 hours cold
- Actual: 30 minutes cold
Whilst this bottle wasn’t designed to retain the temperature of any liquids put inside it, since it is single-walled, it does keep ice cold water at a nice cold temperature for around 30 minutes or so. I have been able to keep it cold for around 1 hour when adding ice inside, but this does create a lot of condensation on the outside of the bottle. I wouldn’t keep any hot liquids in this bottle as the heat will seep out of the stainless steel exterior and burn your hand.
- Claim: 4 hours hot
- Actual: 1 hour hot
Their tumbler isn’t designed with a leakproof lid, instead, it has a sealed lid that you can drink from. This does mean that the tumbler loses heat quite easily. I found it keeps hot drinks at a good temperature for around 1 hour before slowly going lukewarm. Therefore, I don’t rely on the tumbler to keep drinks hot all day (I’d use the original bottle), instead, I use it as a reusable cup for taking to coffee shops.
The Ocean Bottle Original fares pretty well when it comes to retaining temperatures. I don’t find it as effective as my old Chillys bottle, but the lid opening is larger, so I suspect the temperature is more likely to escape from my Ocean Bottle when I open the lid. That being said, I don’t need it to keep liquids cold for 18 hours, so the Ocean Bottle is sufficient for my needs.
I also really enjoy using my Lite bottle for my travels. It doesn’t keep things cold, but sometimes I prefer having something light to carry.
